Old Masters to 19th Century

The Department of Old Masters was founded at the Museum in 1988. The collection of paintings, including more than 200 paintings and sculpture (some on loan to the Museum), focuses on three main areas: Italian art of the 16th-18th centuries; Flemish and Dutch art of the 16th and 17th centuries; and Jewish art of the 19th century. The collection includes paintings by Rubens, Van Dyck, Jan Brueghel the Younger, Honthorst, David Teniers, Van Goyen, Flinck, Rigaud, Reynolds, Maurycy Gottlieb, Jozef Israëls, and more, and sculpture by Alessandro Vittoria, Giovanni da Nola, Houdon, and others, as well as exceptional vitrages by Louis Tiffany.

In addition to the permanent exhibit, temporary exhibitions are held, such as: "Van Dyck and his Age"; "Jan Lievens - The Sacrifice of Isaac"; "Léon Bakst The Sleeping Beauty"; "17th Century Dutch Family Portraits"; "Issac Levitan"; "Jozef Israëls"; "From the Cabinet of Curiosities to Virtual Reality"; "Marvels of the East: Mughal Indian Paintings from the Khalili Collection"; and more.
