The Art Library of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art is an essential research resource of thousands annually - students, scholars, art critics, authors and curators - from Israel and abroad. The library, known for its comprehensive collection of books, is often the sole resource in Israel for background information on Modern and Contemporary art and design.

The Library was founded in 1938, and its initial collection of books was
generated by private donors. The Library grew and developed at a quick
pace thanks to a grant from the Helena Rubinstein Foundation in 1972,
a grant from the Helena Rubinstein Foundation in 1972 , and continues
to expand thanks to private donors and sponsors.
The Library is for study only and does not lend books. The Library staff
offers reference services, and color and black and white photocopy
reproduction, As well as prints from art databases:
Art Abstracts
Art Index retrospective
Grove Dictionary of Art

As well, it is possible to receive Publication Rights and reproductions
of works from the collections of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.


Dept of Visual Resources

Within the Library is the Documentation Center for Israeli art, the only one of its kind in Israel, which reflects different aspects of artistic activity in Israel from the 1920s to today.

The Library is today completely computerized. It includes 50,000 volumes, 140 periodicals, 7,000 microfiches, a collection of video cassettes as well as the Art Indes and the Index of Design and Architecture on CD-Rom. The microfiches collection includes the Allinari archive of photographs documenting the art treasures of Italy and the Marburger Index documenting the art treasures of Germany and some parts of France. The Library is especially known for its depth of collection in the field of Contemporary Art and the Avant-garde.
