MOODS AND MODES IN ISRAELI PHOTOGRAPHY: WORKS FROM THE COLLECTION, GIFT OF LEON AND MICHAELA CONSTANTINER
MOODS AND MODES IN ISRAELI PHOTOGRAPHY: WORKS FROM THE COLLECTION, GIFT OF LEON AND MICHAELA CONSTANTINER
The exhibition presents about thirty Israeli artists and over one hundred photographs from the Museum collection, gift of Leon and Michaela Constantiner, among them works by recipients of the Constantiner Photography Award for an Israeli Artist. The works may be said to represent the state of Israeli photography as it evolved in the past decade, and include a selection of earlier works as well, which significantly influenced contemporary photography both visually and thematically. Particularly prominent among the various themes is the preoccupation with local landscapes and Israeli society. Evident in both these trends is the urge to investigate through the lens the land unfolding lengthwise and crosswise as landscapes of longing, as small blessed plots of land and lands of dispute, seldom presented, in an age of digitalization and globalization, in the traditional silver print.
